Guaranteed winning wheels are lottery wheels that guarantee us to win a small prize. But there is a condition : the winning numbers (usually all of them) MUST be among the numbers we wheel.
This week, Tommy will try out an incredible guaranteed win wheel. It is one of the many “pen and paper” lottery systems he found on the internet, so he prints it out.

The wheel speaks for itself, looks irresistible and keeps its promise : “wheel 20 numbers and you’re guaranteed to win at least a small prize (3/6) if all six winning numbers are among the 20 numbers you entered. It only takes 10 tickets !”
Tommy carefully reads the instructions. He picks 20 numbers and writes them in the top row. Because the instructions suggested not to sort the numbers from lowest to highest, Tommy mixes them randomly. Finally, Tommy copies each number he entered in the top row to each of the 3 pink boxes in the column below it.

In the lottery shop around the corner, Tommy validates his tickets. And two days later, he and his wife, Pamela, are watching the live lotto draw.
- The first winning number appears…
…number 17. (Pamela was born June 17 !!!) - Then follows the second lottery ball…
…and it’s number 08. (the age of their cat Napoleon !!!)
Now read this carefully …
Tommy played both numbers and is guaranteed to win a small prize if the next 4 winning balls are among the 20 numbers he wheeled. But so what? The truth is : the appearance of that 2nd winning number ended Tommy’s quest to win the jackpot: None of his tickets matched both numbers!
Important Conclusion:
Many people mistakenly believe that, if the winning numbers are among the numbers they wheeled, they are closing in towards that jackpot : “If one of my tickets is guaranteed to hit 3 winning numbers, then I am only 3 steps away to hit the jackpot.” You just saw proof that this is not the case!
